The 2nd World Youth Chess Solving Championship is a joint project by FIDE and WFCC (World Federation for Chess Composition), to be held on 16 June 2026, on the morning between the 1st and the 2nd round of the WYCC 2026, in the same age categories as the over-the-board competition.
Each category receives the same set of 8 problems for open and girls: 3 problems in 2 moves, 2 problems in 3 moves, 1 problem in 4 moves, and 2 endgame studies.
Under 14
For solvers who have not reached their 14th birthday before 1st January 2026.

Participation & Setup
- 90 minutes are allotted for solving in each category.
- Separate standings for open and girls. A girl wishing to compete in the open section must announce it before the tournament.
- The number of participants per country is not limited.
- Even if the categories would not be scheduled at the same time, a participant may compete in one category only.
- Participation fee is €25.
- A solver may use the chess set(s) provided by the organiser, or their own set(s). Electronic or technological aids are forbidden, as well as any unfair behaviour.
Scoring & Tiebreaks
- At equal points, the 1st tiebreaker is the shorter time used for solving. All solvers with zero points get the full 90 minutes.
- The 2nd tiebreaker (only in contention for medals) is the younger age.
- Correct solutions will be posted right after the competition; preliminary results normally the same evening.
- Solvers with remarks on their points may ask to see their solving sheets. If they still disagree, they may write a protest to the WFCC President Marjan Kovačević as final instance.
- Deadline for protests announced on the official site before the competition.
- WFCC takes responsibility for the content, regularity and results of the competition.
Each complete solution carries 5 points. Solutions must be written in classical, abbreviated algebraic notation. Participants are allowed to move pieces on the board while solving.
If a solver writes two or more alternative white moves and any of them is incorrect, the score for that solution/variation is zero.
Two-movers
Write only the first move of White. It carries the full 5 points.
Three-movers
Write the first move, the threat (if any), and second moves of White replying to black defences. Only full-length variations score.
Four-movers
Write the first move, the threat (if any), and all different white replies to black defences up to White’s third move.
Endgame Studies
All moves should be written until a clear win or draw. Only the main variation is scored, with points distributed throughout.
